What is it?

Futsal is basically soccer’s little cousin. It is similar to five-a-side soccer. It’s played on a smaller field than soccer and is usually played inside.

How do you do it?

The rules of Futsal are similar to the rules used on soccer, but with some differences. You can read more about the rules here.

Where can you do it?

Anywhere there’s a park, open space, or sports hall! Familiarise yourself with the rules, grab a few mates, and get going.

What do you need to play?

  • A ball
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Other players
  • Goal posts (you can just jumpers for these!)

Who would it suit?

Many people who don’t like playing soccer do enjoy Futsal, so if you’re not a soccer fan, don’t be put off! It’s a great way to spend time with your friends, it’s easy to pick up the rules, and it doesn’t cost much money.

What are the benefits?

  • Helps maintain a healthy weight
  • Builds strength, balance, reflexes, and agility
  • It is not a contact sport so there is a reduced risk of injury
  • The rules are easy to learn
  • It builds heart and lung health
  • It’s a good way to make friends
