What exactly is life coaching?
Coaching is received by people who are looking for a positive change in their lives. Some people receive counselling and other forms of therapy to get support and make changes in their lives. Coaching is primarily future-focused on positive outcomes, and this is the main difference between it and other forms of therapy and counselling. Coaching only briefly refers to the past for awareness of the challenges faced.
What can coaching do for me?
People go to coaching for many reasons; usually people are looking for change in their lives. You may want to change job or career, college course, change your lifestyle or deal better with relationships. Together with your coach, options can be explored, and possibilities created. At the end of the day, you are the expert on you and you decide what direction each conversation takes. By the end of each session you can decide what outcomes and actions you want to take in your life, and make the changes you want to make in your life.
How many sessions will I need?
This is the same as asking “How long is a piece of string?” Some people come to coaching with a challenge that can be addressed in one session, for others the challenge may be greater and take several sessions.
How long do the sessions last?
Sessions are usually 1 hour in duration, and can be done face to face, by telephone or by Skype. Much progress can be made in one hour, and several different topics can be discussed in a session. The sessions are flexible and are directed by you, you are in charge.
It must be noted that coaching has its place, as does counselling and other forms of therapy. Some issues cannot be dealt with in coaching and in such cases people will be encouraged to seek counselling. Just like all support services provided, it is important that when selecting a coach that you ensure that your coach is properly accredited and has gained the necessary qualification.
