Today, White Ribbon Ireland is marking White Ribbon Day, an international effort to end men’s violence against women and girls.

White Ribbon is the largest male-led international movement to end violence against women. It aims to promote gender equality, healthy relationships and a changed, more positive relationship to ‘masculinity’. It encourages men to challenge the attitudes of those who perpetrate or condone violence against women.

Sexual and gender based violence is still widespread, and the campaign recognises the role men should play in ending this.

Speaking at the event today, Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald, noted that although it may a minority of men who commit violence against women, it is an issue that is the concern and responsibility of all men.

How can I get involved?

You can support the campaign by texting ‘WHITE RIBBON’ to 50300 to donate €4, or you buy a white ribbon today. Visit the White Ribbon Ireland website to find more ways to get involved.
