2015 is going to be a big year for voting, with two important referendums being held. On May 22nd you will asked to vote on whether two people of the same sex should be allowed to get married and whether the age at which someone should be eligible to run for president should be lowered from 35 to 21.

You may be wondering if you should vote, you may be completely unsure as to what it's all about or you may think that it's all a waste of time. But before you make up your mind, check out the articles below from other young people on why they think it's important you vote.

How do I register to vote?

  • Log onto www.checktheregister.ie to find out whether or not you're registered to vote.
  • Fill out an RFA2 form if you want to register to vote.
  • If you want to change your address if you're registered to vote already, you need to complete this form.
  • Fill it out, get it stamped by your local Garda Station and send it to your local authority/county council/city council.
  • The deadline to register in advance of May's referendums is May 5th.

For more information on registering to vote, check out our article here.

Want to help?

SpunOut.ie and the Union of Students in Ireland are joining forces for a National Voter Registration Day, which takes place on Thursday April 23rd, to get as many students and young people as possible to sign up to vote ahead of this years referendums. If you'd be interested in helping, take a look at our volunteer pack below. You can take it to your college campus on the day and help your fellow students get registering!
