The Gaisce awards have a strong history in Ireland and are well respected by employers and the general public alike. As a future primary teacher, I believe it is important to be willing to try new activities and be an active member of society. Gaisce have enabled me to satisfy my beliefs and make a difference in the community I live in.

While undertaking this process, I have acquired many new skills and qualities that I wasn’t aware that I had e.g. sean nos dancing. I have become a lot fitter as a result of walking every day and I made many new friendships while visiting an old folk’s home. I am eager to see how my activities develop over the summer months and discover their impact on me.

I hope that this article and the ones that follow this inspire others to undertake the Gaisce Awards or propel others to take control in their lives and try new activities.
