Alan O'Mara to join SpunOut.ie

Blog Posts March 29th2014

SpunOut.ie is delighted to announce Alan O'Mara as our new Communications & Fundraising Officer.

Alan (23) has spent the last two years building an impressive social media presence for the GAA as their National Social Media Coordinator.

He has a degree in Journalism from DIT and previously held the position of Sports Editor at the Cavan Post newspaper.

Alan is currently goalkeeper with the Cavan senior football team, and was part of the U21 Ulster Championship winning team and subsequent All-Ireland finalists in 2011.

He has publicly shared his experience of depression which followed the Ulster win and All-Ireland final, and since then he has continued to speak bravely about depression and the importance of maintaining positive mental health.

Alan says he is looking forward to ensuring SpunOut.ie content reaches more young people so they can be supported in the many challenges they face every day.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the SpunOut.ie team at a very exciting time for the organisation. The website is full of relevant, reliable and non-judgemental information that helps our readers to develop a greater understanding of key issues like mental health and education."

"In my new role I will strive to ensure more people engage with SpunOut.ie and that we empower our young readers to build a bright future for themselves. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the young people of Ireland and am really looking forward to being part of such an innovative organisation."

SpunOut.ie are very excited to welcome Alan to the team.

"We are delighted Alan is joining our small and energetic team." says Ian Power, Director of SpunOut.ie

"Alan brings a wealth of experience to the role, particularly in engaging audiences online, and he has an evident passion for improving the lives of young people. We're very much looking forward to introducing him to our reader community and partners."

In true SpunOut.ie style, we couldn't let Alan away without telling us something fun about himself - he says that if he ever went on Mastermind his specialist subject would be Harry Potter and that he is also a massive Sherlock and House of Cards fan. So there you have it folks!

Alan starts with the team on May 6th. Make sure you give him a big SpunOut.ie welcome!
