Wednesday the 13th of November sees Run in the Dark return to Dublin, Cork and Belfast. Over the last few years, thousands of people have taken part in Mark Pollock’s event, raising money for the Mark Pollock Trust but also hundreds of charities.

*The Dublin event is now sold out. If there's anyone on the East Coast interested, we can arrange transport to Cork/Belfast, please just let us know*

We’re asking you to don the runners, lyrca, deep heat and whatever you’re having yourself, and become a Next Generation Hero for SpunOut.ie. (Ps you don’t have to run it either, it’s open to every level of fitness). Or if you’re signed up to the race already, then think about doing it for SpunOut.ie

Why SpunOut.ie?

  • Each year over 300,000 young people rely on the information and support SpunOut.ie provides.
  • Young people face lots of different pressures, which affect their mental, sexual and physical health. We need your support to support them.
  • Our service costs just €1 per young person we support each year. That means for every euro you raise you will be making a difference in the life of a young person somewhere in Ireland.
  • Another benefit to raising money for us is that for every euro raised before Christmas 2013 – we have a generous donor who will turn your €1 into €3.

How do I sign up for the race?

  • Easy, just go to www.runinthedark.org to get signed up. All the race info is there, plus details of the routes.
  • How do I get fundraising?
  • First things first, drop us an email to john@spunout.ie and we’ll link in with you to make sure you have everything that you need.
  • We’ll get you out your pack with a SpunOut.ie t-shirt
  • Log onto www.justgiving.com to help you fundraise. We use Just Giving as our online tool. It’s easy, engaging and links into all of your social networks. And boom you’re away.

Some motivation:

It’s all well and good us asking you to raise some funds for SpunOut.ie, but why not hear from some young people and why they think SpunOut.ie is important.

Aileen (24) I think SpunOut can help young people who are vulnerable; being a teenager is a tough time, you don’t know who you are and you don’t know who you want to be, and to have a resource like SpunOut really help people come to terms with big changes.

Gregg (22) Through the great resources that the website provided – I was able to garner the confidence needed to talk to my GP, and I was subsequently referred to the Community Mental Health team in my area. If it had not been for SpunOut.ie, I would have not reached that point.

Sarah (20) A lot of people, who get into their 20’s, say that they were lucky to get through their teenage years. SpunOut.ie was a good support for learning techniques to deal with what I was going through.

And you know you need the Rocky montage too...
