From the 6th-10th of November Galway hosts the Junior Galway Film Fleadh, a film festival created with young people in mind. Over the space of five days feature and short length fiction and documentary films in English, Gaeilge, French, German and Spanish will be screened. Filmmaking workshops are also taking place on Saturday at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway.

  • Adult €10
  • Family Ticket (admits 4) €25
  • Workshops €15

Education Programme

Groups of 20+ can purchase tickets as part of the Education Programme. Tickets can be bought for a morning film in English, German or Spanish and an afternoon film in Irish or on a social issue for €10. Supervising teachers of the group get free entry. For more information click here.

Filmmaking workshops at the Junior Galway Film Fleadh

There are three workshops taking place as part of the Junior Galway Film Fleadh.

Making a Movie on Your Phone

11:00am- 1:30pm Town Hall Theatre Studio, Galway

Learn how to make cinematic quality video using a smartphone app with Robert Fitzhugh founder of the Dublin Smartphone Film Festival. Topics covered include the basics of visual storytelling, sound, picture composition and rule of thirds and editing.

SFX Make Up Workshop

11:00 am- 1:30pm Town Hall Theatre Studio, Galway

Learn popular makeup techniques used in film and TV with make up artist Iwona Marciniak. Participants will create scars, bruises, burns, cuts, DIY boils and much more using techniques used by those working in the movie industry.

Stop Motion Animation Workshop  

1:45 pm – 3:45 pm Town Hall Theatre Studio, Galway

This workshop will be an introduction to the art of stop motion animation. Learn to create characters and see your creations move in a short sketch. The workshop is supervised by animator Edith Pieperhoff. Materials are provided.
