Entries now open for the Fresh Film Festival 2021

The entries for the Fresh Film Festival 2021 are now open. Young people aged 7-18 from Ireland and abroad are invited to submit their films and be in with a chance of winning Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year.

How to enter the Fresh Film Festival

Young filmmakers can enter as individuals, as part of their school, or in a group. The work you submit must be original. There are two categories for submitting films:

  • Junior (7-12 years): Films of up to 10 minutes
  • Senior (12-18 years): Films of up to 15 minutes

For national submissions, your work must be completed after January 25th, 2020. For international submissions, your work must be completed after November 2019.

The deadline for entries is Friday, January 22, 2021.

Senior category awards

There are awards up for grabs in both the Junior and Senior categories. 

In the Senior category, awards include:

  • Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year – €1,000
  • 2nd Prize: €700
  • 3rd Prize: €300
  • Best Group: Equipment

The awards are judged by a jury of industry professionals, young filmmakers, previous winners and educators.

All submissions are also considered for a range of Specialist Awards including the Radharc Trust Award for documentaries, the Cartoon Salon Animation Award, the RTÉ 60 Second Award, the Film in the Irish Language award and the RTÉ Factual Award, in addition to the International and Audience awards.

When does the film festival take place?

The Fresh Film Festival will take place March 22nd – 28th, 2021.
