This year Safer Internet Day is on Feb 7th 2017. Safer Internet Day is an initiative to promote a safer Internet amongst young people. This will be the 14th year of the event and this year the call to action is “Be the change: Unite for a better internet”

The internet is a fantastic tool for good and has allowed our generation access to information like no other before us. But it does have its downsides and needs to be navigated wisely. It might sound a little cheesy but the question posed by Safer Internet Day is an interesting one, how can we unite to create a better internet? We’ve all heard the horror stories of what happens when the internet goes wrong, but how do we make sure that it doesn’t happen to us?

How can we ensure that our private information is safe online? How can we feel comfortable chatting on social media, uploading pictures or participating in online debates? You can join the conversation on SpunOut's Facebook and Twitter pages using the hashtag #sid2017

Check out SpunOut’s Online Safety Hub where you can get information about keeping yourself safe online while using platforms such as Facebook, SnapChat and Twitter and much more. www.spunout.ie/onlinesafety

We’ve also put together a list of our articles below which focus on making the internet a better place. You can also check out what Irish Snapchatter, James Kavanagh, has to say about staying safe online below too.
