YOULEAD is looking for young people to share their opinions on Irish mental health services and supports - both the good and the bad.

Who are YOULEAD?

YOULEAD was set up in 2018 to build a network of leading youth mental health researchers working in Ireland. YOULEAD is a collaboration of academic researchers, clinical researchers, health service providers, and other stakeholders, funded by the Health Research Board. These include members form NUI Galway, UCD, and RCSI, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Jigsaw, and is led by Prof. Gary Donohoe (NUI Galway).

Ireland’s First Annual Youth Mental Health Conference (online)

This Autumn YOULead will be holding a series of online lunchtime events in the week leading up to World Mental Health Day on October 10th. From the 4th - 9th October, national and international experts will be discussing their understanding of the mental health needs of young people, and the resources young people need.

During the week, YOULEAD plans to dedicate time during one of the lunchtime sessions to presenting the experiences of young people using mental health services/supports in Ireland. YOULEAD want to provide a platform for young people to share their experiences with others.

Share your experience

Please send us a word, sentences or story on your opinion of mental health services/supports in Ireland. A number of pieces will be performed by actors with the performance being shown online, at Ireland’s First Annual Mental Health Conference in October 2020. Your piece could include (but is not limited to) the following:

  • What is/was your experience of mental health services/supports?
  • What would your ideal mental health service look like?
  • What advice would you give to someone trying to access support services in Ireland?

As this is a creative piece that will be performed, artistic license might be used. So, we may use words, sentences or quotes, combined with other pieces, in a cohesive artistic piece. Our goal is to showcase multiple voices of young people, reflecting their experience of mental health services.

We will let you know if we plan on using your piece in the live performance. All pieces may be shared on the platform with your consent.

How do I get involved?

If you’re between 18 - 25 years and living in Ireland, we would love to hear from you. You can submit a draft or the finished version of your piece by completing the YOULEAD form below - this form asks for some basic information about you, asks for your consent and provides space for you to copy and paste your submission.

Your submitted piece should be between 1 - 500 words long. The deadline for submission is July 31st 2020.
