Samaritans provides a 24-hour helpline, text & email service for anyone who is in distress, struggling to cope & who are in need of emotional support, including those who are feeling suicidal. It opened its first branch in RoI in 1970 and has more than 1,800 volunteers who offer support ont he phone, text, through email, letter and face to face in branches, festivals, prisons and local communities.

Samaritans provides a 24-hour helpline, text & email service for anyone who is in distress, struggling to cope & who are in need of emotional support, including those who are feeling suicidal. One of our key messages is that you don’t have to be suicidal to contact Samaritans. People call us for many different reasons including relationship problems, financial worries, stress, anxiety, mental health, and health issues. Loneliness and isolation account for 1 in 3 contacts.
