Aideen Carberry (Labour- Firhouse-Bohernabreena)

The local elections take place on Friday 24th May, 2019

Name: Aideen Carberry

Age: 30

Preferred pronouns: She/ Her

Party: Labour Party

Local Electoral Area: Firhouse-Bohernabreena

Is this your first time running? No

What are your reasons for running as a young person in politics?

I first contested the local elections in 2014 because I wanted to see more young people (young women, in particular) involved in local and national politics. Since contesting that election, I’ve actually come to realise it’s far more important than I ever realised to have more people whose future depends on political decisions to be contesting elections. The major issues of our day (climate change, health, housing, provision of public services) are all time sensitive; and require radical thinking and action to solve. Who better to have a part to play in resolving these issues, than the very people whose future quality of life depends on it?
