Samaritans Ireland launch new support for young people
Samaritans Ireland can now be contacted 24/7 by email
Samaritans Ireland has launched a new email address to help reach more people in need of emotional support. Last year Samaritans Ireland volunteers answered more than 625,000 calls for help, as well as sending almost 25,000 text replies. Samaritans also give support by written correspondence and face to face in branches, communities and festivals nationwide.
New email address
Samaritans’ new email address [email protected] is dedicated to Ireland and aims to give a new generation of people emotional support when they need it most. With communication through text or email being second nature to most young people, Samaritans want to offer their support through the medium which will make young people feel comfortable.
24/7 support
Volunteers will now be available for free at the new email 24 hours a day as well as on their free phone hotline. You can also text Samaritans 24 hours a day but these texts will be charged normal network rates.
Samaritans’ goal is to reduce suicide and feelings of suicide by easing distress and by being there for anyone who needs support 24 hours, seven days a week. To contact Samaritans services you do not have to be suicidal. Regardless of what you are going through you can contact them at any time. You can also call in and speak to a volunteer in person at your nearest Samaritans branch.
