Dyspraxia Awareness Week 2016
The condition affects up to 8% of the population
It is estimated that Dyspraxia affects up to 8% of the population, but due to its varied symptoms, it can often go undiagnosed. People with dyspraxia may have a combination of problems in varying degrees, including poor balance and posture, social problems, speech problems, poor sense of direction, difficulty hopping, skipping or riding a bike, sensitivity to touch, difficulty with reading and writing, and intolerance of having hair or teeth brushed, and nails and hair cut.
Dyspraxia Awareness Week is taking place between 9-15 October and there are a number of events taking place around Ireland.
- 11 October, 7pm - Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin
Talks from two women with dyspraxia; paediatric occupational therapist and ex-Dublin rose Hannah McDonnell and Victoria Briggs, author of Caged in Chaos: A Dyspraxic Guide to Breaking Free.
This event will also double as the website launch. - 12 October, 8-9pm - Connaght Hotel, Galway
Talk from guest speaker Tanya McGarry - an Occupational Therapist who has worked with children and families for the last fifteen years. She specialises in the areas of child and adolescent mental health, Dyspraxia/DCD, ASD & Sensory Processing challenges.
There will be tea/coffee/chats after the talk.

Lynda McGivney Nolan will be the guest speaker for the evening and is an Optometric Advisor, CPD lecturer and member of the Association of Optometrists Ireland. Lynda will speak on the prevalence of vision problems in children with Dyspraxia/DCD.
