A group of people are setting up a Student Activist Network in Ireland and aim to create a strong sustainable network connecting students and student groups passionate about social and environmental change to each other. They want to reach out to as many groups and individuals as possible to try and ensure that many voices and experiences as possible are part of the network.

They recognise that there are barriers for many young Irish people in gaining access to third level education so they are welcoming any secondary school students, those in further education or training or passionate school leavers over the age of 18.

To date they have held residential gatherings which included workshops on facilitation  skills, strategic campaigning, personal mental health and sustainability, group cohesion, power and privilege, intersectionality and more. They also explored different issues that the attendees were working on or passionate about and how they could work together across Ireland to support one another or replicate campaigns. They have just been accepted onto a social innovation acceleration programme and are feeling very excited about the potential for the network.

This Power Shift Leaflet gives some more information about a training event they are attending in Manchester UK this July. They have received some grants to cover the trip costs and that information is also included. For those who cannot attend this summer but have interest in joining the network or knowing more, please do not hesitate to put them in contact by joining this Facebook group Power Shift.
