Are you interested in learning about fast fashion and sustainable fashion? Do you want to make more ethical decisions when it comes to your clothes? The spunout Sustainable Fashion Academy is a chance to learn about sustainable fashion, meet like-minded people, gain practical skills, and hear from inspirational speakers about creating change in the fashion industry in Ireland.

This four-week series will cover everything from: 

  • The basics of fast fashion
  • Making more sustainable choices
  • Making the most of your wardrobe
  • Upcycling your clothes
  • Spotting greenwashing
  • Becoming a climate activist 
  • Creating a more sustainable fashion culture

The spunout Sustainable Fashion Academy is a series of workshops for young people aged 16-25 living in Ireland. This Academy is free and takes place online over four weeks. 

At the end of the series, you will receive a spunout Sustainable Fashion Activist Certificate to show that you have completed the workshops and to demonstrate your understanding of the issues surrounding fast fashion and sustainable fashion.

What is the Sustainable Fashion Academy?

Over four weeks, you will be introduced to the topic of fast fashion, learn more about the impact our clothes have on the environment, explore ways you can make more sustainable choices, and feel empowered to take action and demand change in the fashion industry.

This is a chance to meet other young people who are passionate about sustainable fashion and the climate crisis, hear from people in the industry making a difference, and become part of a community of sustainable fashion activists.

What topics are covered in the Sustainable Fashion Academy?

The academy takes place over four weeks and will cover a range of topics on sustainable fashion, including:

  • The difference between fast fashion and sustainable fashion
  • Managing climate anxiety
  • What a ‘circular economy’ is and what it means for sustainable fashion
  • How to create a more sustainable wardrobe
  • How to be sustainable on a budget
  • How to tell if a company is lying about their sustainability practices
  • How Ireland can work toward a more sustainable future

There’s also a practical up-cycling session to help you give new life to old clothes, and you will hear personal stories on how sustainable fashion activists began their own journey with a panel moderated by Fionnuala Moran at the end of the series.

After the academy, you will have gained skills in:

When does the Sustainable Fashion Academy take place?

The Sustainable Fashion Academy takes place online across four weeks on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 10th November: 6-7:30pm
  • Wednesday 17th November: 6-7:30pm
  • Wednesday 24th November: 6-7:30pm
  • Wednesday 1st December: 6-7:30pm

Participants are expected to attend all four workshop sessions. 

The final session includes a panel discussion facilitated by sustainable fashion activist & radio presenter Fionnuala Moran (@FionnualaMoran).
