The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for young people in Ireland. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) are looking for young people aged 15-24 and living in Ireland to take part in an online consultation titled ‘How’s Your Head – Young Voices during COVID-19.

Taking part in this survey gives young people in Ireland the opportunity to influence Government policy and public services. The results will help to inform the way services are delivered to young people, and assist the Government in developing policies that address the issues raised by young people.

Participants will also be in with a chance to win Apple Airpods or Galaxy Buds.

The survey will be open from June 24th to July 3rd.

How’s Your Head – Young Voices during COVID-19

The DCYA want to know more about your experiences of life during COVID-19, the things you’ve found hard, the changes to your life that you’d like to keep, and how you feel about the future. The DCYA want to learn more about what would help young people to improve their mental health and wellbeing over the coming summer months and beyond.

Why is this survey happening?

The COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that have been put in place have had an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of young people in Ireland. The DCYA hope that this survey will help the Department to gain a deeper understanding of how young people have experienced life during the pandemic. The survey questions and title were developed by a Youth Advisory Board made up of young people aged 15-24 from across the country.

Speaking about the survey, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr. Katherine Zappone said, “COVID-19 is impacting on young people’s lives in many ways and now my Department wants to hear directly from them about what these impacts are and what might improve their situation as we continue to live alongside COVID-19.

Influencing Government decisions

By taking part in this survey, you will be providing information that will influence Government decisions around how we as a society can move forward into the next period of living with COVID-19. The DCYA hope to use these results to inform them on how to design and deliver services for young people.

The DCYA are working with a number of research experts and organisations, including the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), to make sure that the findings are listened to and responded to.
