A Lot on Your Plate is a limited podcast series created to amplify the voices of young Palestinians living in Ireland. Hosted by Sanaa of ‘Susu’s Kitchen’, the series explores the intersection of Palestinian identity and life in Ireland through personal stories, cultural insights, and meaningful conversations. From food and art to community, education, and belonging, each episode provides a unique and intimate glimpse into the lives of young people navigating their Palestinian heritage while living in a new home.

Against the backdrop of a world often focused on conflict, ‘A Lot on Your Plate’ shifts the lens to personal narratives and the richness of Palestinian culture. This series was born from our spunout Action Panel members asking to hear directly from young Palestinians about their experiences, their culture, and what matters most to them.  Through intimate conversations, the podcast highlights the stories of young people navigating life in Ireland while staying connected to their heritage.

Episode 1 – Education and Advocacy
In our first episode, Raghad reflects on the vital role of community in their experience of living in Ireland, highlighting how friendships formed through university and social events provided essential support. They discuss the deep cultural significance of food in Palestinian traditions, particularly the dish Ma’aloube, and draw parallels between Irish and Palestinian hospitality, especially around shared meals and tea. The conversation also explores the warmth and acceptance they have felt in Ireland, their growing connection to both Irish and Palestinian identities, and the widespread, visible support for Palestine in everyday life.

Episode 2 – Creative Resistance
In this episode, Shahd shares their journey of rebuilding their business, Molhem, after being displaced from Palestine, highlighting the emotional and logistical challenges but also the support that keeps them going. Shahd emphasises the importance of Palestinian art and culture in keeping their identity alive, as well as the need for continued global solidarity and awareness. Despite hardships, Shahd remains hopeful, encouraging others to stand up for Palestinian rights, support Palestinian businesses, and keep the conversation going.

Sanaa is the founder of ‘Susu’s Kitchen’, an Instagram platform dedicated to Palestinian food, culture, and storytelling. Born in Gaza and now based in Ireland, Sanaa uses her passion for cooking and art to connect with her Palestinian heritage and share it with a broader audience. With a warm and engaging presence, Sanaa brings these important conversations to life, offering a safe space for young Palestinians to share their stories.
