Man2Man.ie, the Gay Health Network and Dublin Aids Alliance have launched a new interactive map so you can find out where your nearest and free HIV/STI clinic is.

Know the Score: Get Tested is a new campaign encouraging gay and bisexual men to get tested or retested for HIV. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HSPC) reported 344 new cases of HIV in 2013.

Speaking at the launch, gay rights activist Rory O'Neill said: “As someone who is HIV positive and leads a healthy life, I would encourage everybody to get tested. Testing is essential to prevent the spread of HIV. It also ensures that people who are HIV positive get the treatment they need early and can go on to lead a productive and normal life.”

Research carried out by Janssen found that 83% of gay and bisexual men in Ireland consider their risk of contracting HIV as unlikely or very unlikely. Researchers found that 70% of sexually active gay and bisexual men have had unprotected sex, with almost one in ten saying they always have unprotected anal sex.

HIV is an issue that can affect anyone, irrespective of sexual orientation. A Janssen spokesperson said that in 2013, 38% of newly diagnosed cases were infected via heterosexual sex.
