We can’t always control our thoughts but we can decide how we act on them. Choose to ignore negative thoughts and try to stay positive if you can. Try some of our tips to learn how to be more aware:

  1. Meditation — learning to meditate can help focus the mind and drown out the internal chatter. It can take a while to get the hang of it so don't worry if you find it difficult at first. There are also loads of really cool apps out there to help.
  2. Make a list — Put together some positive quotes that help to keep the negative thoughts at bay or a list of things you are grateful for. Doing this will be a reminder of all the positive things in your life and will help cancel out any negative thinking.
  3. Surround yourself with positive people —  Hang out with people who have positive outlooks and make you feel good about yourself.
  4. Help someone out — being selfless and taking the time to help a friend or stranger can give you a sense of accomplishment and keep a positive attitude.
  5. Yoga — there are different types of yoga but yoga that focuses on your breathing can help with relaxation and dealing with negative thoughts.
  6. You are not your thoughts — everyone will face negative thoughts at times but simply remembering that they are just thoughts and do not always reflect reality, can help you keep a positive mind frame.
  7. Just do it — if your negative thoughts are a lot about what you cannot do or ways that things could go wrong, then take a chance and see what happens. Chances are that you'll be pleasantly surprised.
  8. Smile — you might not feel like it but faking positive vibes can be an easy way to start forcing out the negative thoughts when they arrive.
  9. Have a rant — similarly to making a list, writing down your negative thoughts can be a good way to let them go and clear your mind.
  10. Change the negative into positive — For every negative thought you notice yourself having, make an effort to try to change it into a positive one instead. It might feel forced for a while, but with practice will become second nature.
